Plea for HELP FOR NEPAL

Here is a letter from an architect member of ARCASIA.

Dear Arcasia friends,

As some of you may remember me, I am from Nepal and I'm sure you all have read the news about the terrible situation in my hometown right now. We have been hit by the worst earthquake in 80 years and the devastation is beyond anything you can imagine. I am writing today to urge you to please help us in any way that you can. My family have set up a fund raising page where you can donate any thing that you are able to and the money will go directly to help rebuild, feed and care for the thousands who are left homeless and on the streets of Kathmandu and beyond.

Please find it in yourself to help me in this very desperate situation, we need every help we can get.

I know there are a lot of charities like Oxfam doing their bit, I don't know how long their funds will take to reach the right places, so I would please urge you to donate to these pages started by locals in Nepal so the money can go straight to the people on the streets who need it most and It will all be used to provide blankets, shelters, water and food and mainly for caring for children who have unfortunately lost their parents their homes and everything.

Please help spread the word and donate in any way that you can, it will save lives.

Barangay Health Centers in Samar

One of the factors that is needed to improve the Nation’s health care status is through the provision of good and efficient primary health care  facilities in the local government units. Health Futures Foundation, Inc. (HFI) headed by former DOH Secretary Dr. Jaime Z. Galvez Tan, a non-governmental organization who advocates the improvement of the primary health care for all Filipinos, has committed to pursue a program on the Nationwide modernization of local government barangay health centers.

Among the advocacies of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) is to strengthen its ties with the National and Local Government Units through its various service oriented project collaboration with the different national and local government agencies. With that UAP has signified its intention to assist the HFI in its Nationwide Barangay Health Centers modernization project,

The partnership aims to establish an alliance between HFI and UAP to promote the sustainable design and development of a modernized health care facility through  the design and renovation of barangay health.

The partnership involves the following scope wherein HFI shall implement a nationwide assessment, evaluation, design and renovation  of the physical site and facilities of barangay health centers and on the other hand, UAP shall mobilize its 137 chapters to assist the HFI in conducting the assessment, evaluation, design, renovation or construction  of the physical site and facilities of barangay health centers.

As a result of the Memorandum of Agreement forged between the two parties, several barangay health centers were constructed and facilitated by the different UAp chapters. The most recent ones are the four barangay health centers located in Samar which were coordinated by UAP District C3 under the stewardship of District Director Joel Jao.

Completed barangay health centers are located in Brg. Tinabanan, Marabut, Samar and in Brgy. Palactad, Quinapondan, Eastern Samar

Integrating Disaster Risk Management into Climate Change Adaptation

by Bharat Dahiya

Integrating Disaster Risk Management into Climate Change Adaptation promotes the adoption of a risk management approach to climate-sensitive decision-making and serves as a reference to integrate DRM with climate change adaptation (CCA). It guides the reader on how to contribute to CCA by improving the management of climate extremes. The handbook specifically addresses those DRM practitioners who sit within: -- the National Disaster Management Agency; or -- line agencies and local governments and have the designated responsibility for DRM.
